Called to Care

Called to Care: Ministering to those near End-of-Life

Many people want to know who to provide care to those who are hurting, suffering, or dying.  They want to know what to say and how to show support.  Rev. Ben Keller, the co-pastor of Clinton Presbyterian Church is seeking to help those who want to learn more about pastoral care for those near life’s end.

His training, entitled: Called to Care: Ministering to Those near End-of-Life, is a 10-session, 12-week training on providing pastoral care to those with life-limiting conditions. This is his Doctor of Ministry research project. In addition to being an ordained pastor, Keller is a Board Certified Chaplain, a Certified Thanatologist (death and dying educator), and Chaplain for Harbor Light Hospice in Decatur.

Called to Care, is being taught at two locations: Clinton Presbyterian on Thursdays from 7-9 PM beginning February 13 and First Presbyterian Church of Normal on beginning Tuesday February 11. It utilizes role-play, didactic, lecture, videos, group discussion, multimedia, and all participants will receive a daily reflection journal.

Keller describes this as a win-win. “It’s designed for clergy and lay leaders/volunteers.  I win by getting participants for my D. Min. project.  They community wins by getting free training for clergy, church members, and pastoral care volunteers, enable them to care for others.”

For more information or to sign up for the training, please contact Rev. Ben Keller (217) 935-6178 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   To download a brochure click here
